Paul Newman Exhibits at Black Swan Arts, Frome

Paul has recently been involved with organising and curating 'In Pursuit of Spring', an exhibition at Black Swan Arts in Frome, Somerset, where local artists and Somerset Art Works members were asked to respond to the book by Edward Thomas. Thomas cycled from Balham, London to the Somerset coast in early 1913 to "meet the Spring', photographing and writing along the way.

"Thus I leapt over April and into May, as I sat in the sun on the north side of Cothelstone Hill on the 28th of March, the last day of my journey westward to find the Spring." Edward Thomas

It's a thoughtful account of Thomas's journey, celebrating nature as the seasons change around him. Poignantly he took his journey not long before the outbreak of the First World War which sadly took his life in 1917 at the Battle of Arras.

The exhibition presents 50 works including a graphite drawing in Paul's signature style as well as two drawings from his bird series and a sketch of one of our very own oak trees in the grounds of Close House.

'In Pursuit of Spring' is open until the 27th June 2021
