CLOSE are thrilled to announce the reputation of artist Trish Morrissey. Morrissey’s work lies somewhere between self portraiture and performance, with research at its root, taking in fields such as history, psychology, philosophy, biography, literary fiction and film. Her photographs, films and installations use historical material and biography as points of departure, to explore ideas around family, roles of women, body and gesture, class and role play. She first came to prominence in the early 2000’s as part of a group of female photographers who embed themselves within the work.
Morrissey has shown her work internationally and her photographs are included in a number of prominent collections including the Martin Parr Foundation, England; the Serlachius Fine Art Foundation, Finland; the Museum of Fine Art, Houston, USA and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
The first major UK survey of Morrissey’s work to date will open at Impressions Gallery, Bradford tomorrow (15 July-14 Oct). The exhibition brings together photographs and films spanning more than twenty years of the artist’s career and will be the UK premiere of several bodies of work, including Morrissey’s new film Eupnea (2023).
